AI Search Optimization (GEO / AIO)
EFORWEB provides AI search optimisation (GEO / AIO) so that businesses appear with the right information in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google’s AI Overviews, and are recommended as a source. We organise your site’s access for AI crawlers, the clarity of your content and the consistency of your business information online, and measure the result every month with a fixed set of questions. We carry out our work in line with Google’s official guide and rely on measurement rather than promises.
When users look for a product or service, they now read a single answer instead of a list of ten links. If your name does not appear in the answer to questions such as “Recommend an agency in Mersin that builds corporate websites” or “Which companies do part-load transport from Mersin to Iraq?”, a potential customer can make a decision without ever seeing you.
Definition
What do GEO and AIO mean?
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and AIO (AI Optimization) are names for work that aims to have your content and business information understood correctly by AI assistants and cited as a source in their answers. AEO (answer engine optimisation) is also used for the same field. In some sources the abbreviation AIO is also used for Google’s AI Overviews feature. For a detailed explanation, see our article What are GEO and AIO? (in Turkish).
What is known
AI answers and SEO: what is known and what is not
Honesty is needed in this field. Google has an official guide for its AI features (AI Overviews and AI Mode), and this guide describes the work as ‘still SEO’. For ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and the Gemini app, however, as far as we know there is no official guide as detailed as Google’s; much of the knowledge in this area is based on experiments and observation.
| Surface | Status | Our approach |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Overviews and AI Mode | Answers are based on Google’s search index. No special file or markup is needed. | A solid SEO foundation; measurement with the Generative AI performance report in Search Console. |
| ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini app | Each assistant uses its own sources and searches; the systems change often. There is no guarantee of appearing. | Open crawler access, consistent business information, original content and a monthly question-set measurement. |
| Google Business Profile and Merchant Center | Google’s guide states that local business and product information can also appear in AI answers. | Keeping the profile and product feed complete and up to date. |
How assistants other than Google’s build their answers in particular cannot be fully seen from the outside. That is why we measure instead of making promises.
Scope
What is included in the service?
-
AI visibility audit
With a question set specific to your sector, we examine whether your business and your competitors appear in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude, which sources are shown and whether the information about you is correct.
-
Technical access
We check whether crawlers such as ChatGPT’s search crawler (OAI-SearchBot) and PerplexityBot are being blocked unknowingly by robots.txt, Cloudflare or security plugins, and configure access. On the Google side, we confirm with Search Console that your pages are indexed and can be shown with a snippet.
-
Consistent business information
We make sure the business name, address, phone number, founding year and services are exactly the same on the site, Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Yandex, directories and LinkedIn. For e-commerce sites we also organise the Merchant Center product feed.
-
Original, expert content
Pages written from your own experience, with figures and sources; not a repeat of what others say. A clear heading and paragraph structure for the reader. Google’s guide also highlights this kind of content as the most effective factor in the long run.
-
Structured data (as part of general SEO)
We mark up the business, services and people with schema.org. According to Google it is not required for AI features; we set it up as part of general SEO for rich results and for the data to be understood correctly.
-
Natural brand mentions
Increasing customer reviews, and real, natural mentions in local publications and sector sites. We don’t produce artificial or bought mentions.
-
Measurement and reporting
Monthly question-set results, Search Console’s Generative AI performance report and tracking AI-referred visits as a separate channel in Google Analytics 4.
Limits
What we don’t do
Google’s official guide considers some practices that are often sold under the name of AI optimisation unnecessary for Google Search. We don’t sell these as a service:
When buying a “GEO” or “AEO” service, check whether the proposed work is in line with Google’s official guide; that is exactly what Google recommends too.
- llms.txt file: Google Search does not use this file; it neither helps nor harms visibility on Google. On request, it is prepared as an extra for other tools that read it, with no promised effect.
- Splitting content into pieces for AI (chunking) or rewriting it only for AI.
- AI-specific schema.org markup: No such markup is needed.
- Artificial or bought “brand mentions”.
- Tools and reports claiming “we use Google’s internal metrics”: No third-party tool can access Google’s internal ranking systems.
Process
How do we proceed?
-
Baseline measurement
A set of 10–15 questions your customers would ask is agreed together; the current situation is recorded.
-
Technical setup
Indexing, crawler access and site speed are fixed.
-
Business information
One and the same information is used on all platforms; old and incorrect entries are cleaned up.
-
Content
Pages and sections are prepared that answer your customers’ real questions with your own experience; what matters is usefulness, not the number of pages.
-
External signals
We work on customer reviews and natural mentions in reliable sources.
-
Monthly report
The question set is tried again every month, the change is reported and the plan is updated.
Our own site
We apply it to ourselves first
While moving eforweb.com to its new infrastructure, we are applying this method to our own site first: we are organising AI crawler access, aligning our business information across all platforms, rewriting our content and measuring the results with a fixed set of questions.
Who it is for
Who is it a priority for?
It matters for every business whose customers ask “which one would you recommend?” before deciding. Healthcare organisations and clinics, law and consulting firms, logistics and foreign trade companies, real estate and tourism businesses, B2B manufacturers and e-commerce sites where product recommendations are sought stand out in particular.
Guarantee
Is there a guarantee of appearing in AI answers?
No. AI models and the sources they use change often and may give different answers to the same question at different times. Instead of a guarantee, we write down from the start what we will do, when, and which questions we will use to measure the result, and we report on it every month.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
If you can’t find the answer to your question, call us or message us on WhatsApp.
Is AI optimisation replacing SEO?
Google describes the work for its own AI features as “still SEO”; in other words, it is not a separate discipline but built on the same foundation. As user behaviour shifts towards AI answers, its importance will grow, so we run both together. SEO consulting
When will I see results?
The effect of technical and business information fixes can start to show within a few weeks. As the models’ knowledge is updated and reliable sources about you multiply, visibility grows over months; the pace varies from assistant to assistant.
ChatGPT has wrong information about my company. Can you fix it?
It is not possible to intervene in AI assistants directly. We find and correct the source of the wrong information (an old directory entry, an old website, an inaccurate news item) and make the correct information consistent across reliable sources; over time the assistants use the current information.
How do I know whether my site is blocking AI crawlers?
Cloudflare, security plugins and server firewalls can block these crawlers without you noticing. In the audit we check your robots.txt file, security settings and server logs and report whether the crawlers can access your site. Whether to allow crawlers used for training is your decision.
Is an llms.txt file necessary?
Google Search does not use this file, and its official guide says it is not needed; creating one neither helps nor harms your visibility on Google. Its effect for other tools has not been proven. That is why we don’t sell it as a service; we prepare it as an extra on request.
What should I look out for when buying a GEO / AEO service?
Ask whether the proposed work has a counterpart in Google’s official guide. Stay away from anyone offering guarantees, tools that claim to use “Google’s internal metrics” and those proposing artificial mentions or content duplication. A good service should state in writing from the start what it will do, how it will measure and when it will report.
How is the fee determined?
Instead of a fixed monthly fee, by the time we spend: you pay only for the time worked, based on a 60-minute unit rate. Every month we report the work done and its duration item by item. The unit rate varies with the scope of the work and the length of the agreement; long-term agreements get a more favourable unit price.
